Thomas Hobbes

Thomas Hobbes (1588–1679) was an English philosopher best known for witnessing a civil war, writing Leviathan, and developing an enduring suspicion of humanity's ability to govern itself. For centuries critics accused him of being too cynical about human nature. He would like it noted that those critics did not have access to the internet.
